Deputy Dog and Out2spooks a night at the Adelaide Gaol

Our very own Deputy Dog and Out2spooks recently had a very interesting night. They participated in an Impromptu investigation at a local paranormal hot spot. Adelaide Gaol was an Australian prison located in Thebarton, South Australia. The gaol was the first permanent one in South Australia and operated from 1841 until 1988. The prison is now a museum, tourist attraction and function center.
Adelaide Gaol once held a total of 300,000 prisoners in its time. The prisoners were worked hard, and spent a total of 18 hours per day in their cells. they were also punished brutally for their crimes in the early days, cat of nine tales were used, as were whips and birch branches tied together for people accused of child molesting. 45 executions took place in the 'Hanging Tower'. One woman was among the executed, Elizabeth Woolcock on December 30th 1873. 'Lizzy' was convicted of slowly and deliberately poisoning her husband to death and was deemed by some a cold blooded murderer, by others she was known as a victim of physical and mental torture by her husband and just couldn't take it any more, still up for speculation, in todays times she would have been dealt with more leniently, she is seen wandering around sometimes moaning at her misfortune.

Known to happen when people pass through the prison surgery is a strange loud creaking noise that cant be explained, a tour guide told us that a man has been seen wandering around during tours that was not a part of the tour quite frequently. A spirit dubbed 'man in blue' is also seen wandering around the sections which have been sealed up for years.

Here is their story from that night .

Driving along to our usual fortnightly cemetery outing, we were wondering if we should take a chance and visit the Old Adelaide Gaol, we had always wanted to go there, but knew they only take pre-booked groups but we just had this feeling, and I said to lara, the best things happen spontaneously, so lets take a chance. We drove there and the big gaol doors were locked and it had a big bell that said 'ring once' for assistance, so we did. The tour guide came to the door and we ask him if he minded us coming in and taking some caps, he said that they don't usually take people in straight off the street, but he would ask the group that was going through if they minded, and can you believe it, they were a group of 30 psychics going through that night! of all the luck. He went and asked and they gladly accepted us into their group. we had the whole tour, got so many fantastic shots, met all of these like minded people who we could discuss our experiences with freely and said that we could join in their activities if we wanted (which they do on a regular basis). these people were so friendly and giving, they told us lots of wonderful stories of experiences they have had, and also shared the feelings they had this night in the gaol. there were radical temperature changes in a lot of places especially the condemned wing and gallows area. we saw old goal cells, gallows, burial plots, amazing things which came up with amazing results and the atmosphere there was SO fantastic, and we came out feeling on top of the world. I believe that it was fate that led us there that night, fate that got us in and fate that introduced us to all these wonderful, like-minded people, who are very keen to come out with us on our future cemetery photo taking outings. cant wait for that!

As we all toured through the gaol very often people were feeling temperature changes and actually feeling physically sick in the 'new building' area, apparently back in the day prisoners would beg to be placed anywhere else but in the new building as they often saw a misty grey entity which scared them senseless. on the pathway to the hanging tower I felt a presence follow me and couldn't shake it, some of the people we were with actually saw someone behind us, but then disappeared. I particularly felt a presence in the watchtower where the warden, his wife and child lived, feeling like I was being watched from the actual tower, when I took a few caps there it came up with great results, similarly when walking up and watching the Hanging Tower looming ahead I saw lights buzzing around the actual tower and felt very cold, I assumed it was people still in there taking caps, but the tour guide had already locked it up by this stage and said there was often sightings of orbs by the naked eye in the tower, so I capped away and got some super orbs around the hanging tower.

Walking through the 'newer building' there was a radical temperature change which puts chills through my body and made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end, The psychics we were touring with felt an assortment of things in here including pressure on the top of their head and some felt physical sickness during their tour of the 'newer building'.

Other people have heard screaming in the unmarked grave area next to the hanging tower.

Our tour guide told us a story of a man in a cell that edged onto the unmarked grave area, he complained of how every night a man would walk through the wall and sit on the end of his bed and talk to him and keep him up all night! when cross referencing what the spirit looked like from the prisoners description, he ended up being the man that was executed and buried right next to this man jail cell.

A disturbing part of the tour was the condemned man cell where prisoners were kept just before their execution. i had terrible feelings in this cell, and entered it and stood in there in the dark feeling really scared and actually a feeling of being completely alone and quite sad. the inside of the door to this cell which was solid metal was covered in scratches and punch marks from the poor prisoners trying to claw their way out, knowing what fate awaited them in the very near future, when i was in the cell i could totally imagine their feelings of hopelessness and sadness.
